The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office reports that on July 28th, 2026, at approximately 4:08 pm Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Mary Dewey, age 63, of 2045 W Seneca St Ovid, NY for 7 counts of failure to provide sustenance to animals (misdemeanor), and 6 counts of aggravated cruelty to animals (felony).
This arrest stems from an incident where it is alleged that on July 9th, 2026, Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a residence, to find seven animals in extremely poor health and living conditions. It is alleged that Dewey had failed to provide the animals with proper sustenance and all animals needed immediate veterinary intervention. Seven living animals were seized (three cats and four dogs), and six deceased dogs were collected from the property.
Dewey was released on an appearance ticket and will answer the charges at a later date.
